Leslie Ray McKeever, 85, of 318 N. East Street, Kewanee, died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at the Oakland Health Care Center in Kewanee.

Mr. McKeever was born Jan. 29, 1910, in rural Stark County, the son of James and Carrie Strum McKeever. He was reared and educated in rural schools.

He married Gladys Hanchett May 11, 1933, in Toulon. She survives, as do three daughters, Mrs. Murt (Lauretta) Holton of Ft. Myers Beach, Fl.; Mrs. Jerry (Carole) Skeel of Colona; and Mrs. Earl (Collene) Lomelino of Crystal Lake; two sons, Bill (Sherrill) McKeever, Peoria, and Bruce (Sandy) McKeever of Victoria; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arlie McKeever of Kewanee; and three sisters, Alma Loudenburg of Kewanee, Arlene Harris of Bradford and Nina Copple of Buda.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Mr. McKeever farmed most of his life in the Bradford area. He had worked at Hyster in Kewanee, retiring in 1975. He had served as chairman of the board for Dunn School, and enjoyed his family, gardening, fishing and picnicking.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11 at Cavanagh and Schueneman Funeral Home, Kewanee, with the Rev. Joey Watt of the El Vista Baptist Church, Peoria, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, or the American Cancer Society.

Leslie married Gladys Lauretta Hanchett, daughter of Charles Frank Hanchett and Ora Arlene Manning, on May 11, 1933 in Toulon, Stark County, Illinois ⁶. (Gladys Lauretta Hanchett was born on August 2, 1914 in Bradford, Stark County. Illinois ⁶, died on March 14, 1997 in Kewanee, Henry County, Illinois ⁶ and was buried in Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Henry County, Kewanee, Illinois.)
