CARL KITTERMAN

Wyoming--Carl A. Kitterman, 75, of 502 S. Seventh died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Kewanee Public Hospital.

Born May 20, 1906, in Toulon, he was a son of Ross and Laura Strum Kitterman. He married Cora Belle Conner June 30, 1927, in Princeton.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Lee of Portland, Ore.; a daughter, Laura A. Ballentine, one brother, Ray E., and one sister, Mrs. Roy (Hazel) DeWolfe, all of Wyoming; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons and one brother.

He operated a welding shop in Chapin seven years, then was a mechanic in Wyoming for a number of years before working at the Hyster company in Peoria until retiring in 1971.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Monmouth.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. tomorrow at Wyoming Funeral Home, the Rev. Ron Compton officiating. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Lung Association.

TWO WYOMING BROTHERS DIE IN CYCLE CRASH

Three persons of the Kewanee area lost their lives in weekend traffic accidents. The victims include two brothers, believed killed instantly in a motorcycle crash near Wyoming Sunday night.

James and Carl Jr., sons of Mr. and Mrs. Carl A. Kitterman Sr., Wyoming were killed Sunday evening on R. 91 when their small Mustang motorcycle was hit from the rear by a car.

The Kitterman brothers were apparently test-driving the small machine. According to State Trooper Bob Johnson they were found about 20 feet from the point of impact and it was impossible to discern who was driving.

Trooper Johnson said Willard G. Meaker, 32, of Wyoming, driver of the car involved in the accident, said there was no light on the rear of the motorcycle, Meaker told the state trooper, he was traveling north and as a car going south passed him, the car was right upon the motorcycle. He said he was unable to stop the car in time.

Another Wyoming resident, Harold Bergthold, 35, of Wyoming, was a passenger in the Meaker car.

The Kitterman's were pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. Joseph Unhold.

An inquest has been scheduled for 7:30 tonight at the Cos Memorial Home, Wyoming.

The brothers were sons of Carl A. and Cora Conner Kitterman, James was born March 27, 1929 in Castleton. He was graduated from Wyoming High School in 1947, and served in Korea. He was married Sept. 27, 1952 to the former Donna Olson, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Olson, 128 E. College St., Kewanee. The wife and a son, Danny survive.

Carl was born Nov. 11, 1930 in Jacksonville. He graduated from Wyoming High School in 1958, and was married on Oct. 17, 1959 in Kewanee to Linda Bybokas, who survives. He was the son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Bybokas, 416 E. 7th St. Kewanee.

The Junior Carl Kitterman's have been living at 400 Smith St., Creve Coeur with Mr. Kitterman employed as an apprentice mechanic at the Phillips 66 Service Station on Loucks Avenue in Peoria.

James Kitterman was employed in the engineering department of the Caterpillar Tractor Co., East Peoria. He and his family lived in Wyoming.

Other survivors include the parents of Wyoming; a sister, Laura, at home, and a brother, Robert, Peoria.

The two brothers attended the Wyoming Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Cox Memorial Home..

STAR COURIER---RULE DEATHS OF BROTHERS ACCIDENTAL

Wyoming---A verdict of accidental death was returned Monday night by a Coroner's jury at an inquest into the deaths of Carl Kitterman Jr., 20, of Creve Coeur and his brother, James, 21, of Wyoming.

The brothers were killed Sunday night on R. 91 about a mile south of Wyoming when their small motorcycle was struck from the rear by a car driven by Willard G. Meaker, 32, Wyoming.

The inquest was conducted at the Cox Memorial Home in Wyoming by Coroner John Dunlap of Bradford.

It was announced that double funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Cox Memorial Home, the Rev. Theodore Kinne officiating.

Burial will be in the Wyoming Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today.

The brothers were sons of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kitterman Sr. of Wyoming. Carl was employed as a mechanic at a service station in Peoria, while James was employed in the engineering department of the Caterpillar Tractor Co., East Peoria.
