PHILIP G. SCHEMBER LAID TO REST LAST WEDNESDAY IN BRADFORD CEMETERY
Philip George Schember, for years a resident of Pekin and a highly esteemed citizen of this community, died at the Pekin hospital at midnight Sunday, September 16. He was a sufferer with cancer and had been taken to the hospital just two weeks ago.
He was a son of Philip and Dora Coppel Schember and was born in Pekin, May 9, 1871. His marriage to Miss. Mable Kitterman, took place at Princeton, October 18, 1900, the ceremony being solemnized by Rev. John Whipple of the M.E. church. They lived in Toulon after their marriage for 2 years then moved to Bradford, and lived here 3 years, then they traveled for 3 years after which they moved to Pekin and have made their home there ever since.
Mr. Schember was a member of the Odd Fellows, Rebekahs and the Mystic Workers. He was a foreman at the Corn Products company and had been in the employ of that company for the past nine years. He enjoyed a wide acquaintance and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
Mr. Schember is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Verna Powers, one grandchild, Donald, his step-mother, Mrs. Philip Schember, Sr., and the following brothers and sister, William J. of Hutchinson, Ks; Henry, of St. Louis, Mo.; George of South Pekin; Louis of Springfield; and Fred and Carl, of Pekin and Mrs. Norma Beetchen of Pekin.
Short funeral services were held at the residence, 411 Ann Eliza street Tuesday evening at 7:00 o'clock and were conducted by Rev. William Lucas. Mrs. Julius Janssen and Miss. Catherine Janssen rendered two vocal selections.
Wednesday morning at 9:00 o'clock the body of Mr. Schember was brought to Bradford where services were held at the M.E. church at 1:30 o'clock. Services were conducted by Rev. Thomas Crapp and a quartet consisting of R.C. Hay, T.J. Ash, G.A. Marsh and Rev. T. Crapp sang. The Pallbearers were members of the Bradford lodge of Odd Fellows. The Odd Fellows also had charge of the services at the grave.

Philip married Mabel Laura Kitterman, daughter of Jasper Newton Kitterman and Phylinda Cole Mix, on October 18, 1900 in Princeton, Bureau County, Illinois. (Mabel Laura Kitterman was born on January 13, 1879 in Lombardville, Stark County, Illinois 34, died on April 22, 1940 in Pekin, Tazwell County, Illinois and was buried in Bradford Cemetery, Bradford, Stark County, Illinois.)

They came to Toulon and have been visiting at the home of the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Kitterman since. The groom is a photographer.
