Frank Manning Dies; Funeral Tuesday A.M. at Methodist Church

Frank Manning, for many years a resident of this community, passed away at his home here Saturday, the result of a stroke which he suffered a few weeks ago. Mr. Manning was held in high esteem in Bradford, and his death is deeply regretted.

Frank R. Manning, son of John and Elsie Wood Manning, was born in the state of New York, April 2, 1863. When he was a child he was brought by his parents to the state of Iowa, where the family made its home for years. When he was 11 years old the family came to Illinois and after a time settled in Tiskilwa. It was there that Mr. Manning learned the trade of blacksmith. At the age of 19 he moved to Lombardville where he opened a shop.

In July, 1886, he was married to Viola Kitterman, and to this union eight children were born, two of whom died in infancy. About forty years ago the family moved to Bradford, and here for thirty years Mr. Manning conducted a blacksmith shop. Mrs. Manning died in 1922. Quitting blacksmithing Mr. Manning then moved to a farm east of town. After a few years there he moved back to Bradford. Once more he removed to Bradford to the West of town.

In 1924 he was married to Mrs. Ella Harmon. She passed away in 1927. On Sept. 9, 1928, he was married to Mrs. Susie Dillon.

Last January he moved to Bradford across from his old blacksmith shop. But he was not to enjoy it long for he suffered a stroke a few weeks ago. He passed away Saturday morning at 9:40 o'clock, his age at death being 72 years, one month and 13 days.

Mr. Manning belonged to the Masonic Fraternity since he was twenty-one years of age. He joined the Methodist Church of Bradford in 1898.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Susie Manning; by five children, Mrs. Arlene Hanchett of Bradford, Mrs. Blanche Harris of Buda, Glen Manning, Clefford Manning and Paul Manning all of Bradford. One daughter, Mrs. Laura Tarr preceded the father in death in 1932. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one brother, Albert of Polo, Missouri.

The funeral service was held at the M.E. church Tuesday morning in charge of Rev. Stanley Ward. Burial was in the Bradford cemetery.

Relatives from out-of-town attending the funeral were Omar Tarr, Des Moines, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Manning and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Manning and daughter, Tiskilwa; Mrs. Otto Bottin, Elmhurst; Mrs. Mable Schember, Mr. and Mrs. Al Winkle and son, Pekin; Mrs. Mildred Holley and son, Farmington; Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Roberts and son, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Manning, Mrs. Faye Dolislager, Mrs. Rose Dillon, Mrs. Irene Holton and Prosper Dolislager, Kewanee; George Dillion, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Amos Blake, LaFayette; Mrs. Geor. F. R. Manni ng was forced to pay a license fee of eight dollars for the privilege of running a dance platform and refreshment booth near Main street on July 4th. At the last meeting of the town council he asked that the money be refunded, this the "city dads" refused to do in toto, but did order that three dollars of his money be paid back. Naturally Frank feels very indignant, there being no shadow of justification in charging him any fee whatever, and in fact no license was given him the money being demanded and paid without even the formality of a license.
