Yesterday morning, Mr. and Mrs. Phil Schember were called upon to bear one sorrow more in the loss of their little son, Leo Philip. On August 28, 1901, joy entered their home with the birth of twins, who, during the few short months of their little lives, became dearer each succeeding day to those who loved and cared for them. Their lives were spent together and in death they were not long separated, for Otto Jasper died the morning of January 3, and Leo Philip joined him in heaven January 16. We cannot see why some should be stricken more that the rest; we can but bow in sore grief and murmur, " Gods will is best." It will take " heaven's eternal years to prove that life and death, and joy and pain are ministers of Love." The burial will be at Bradford on Saturday, by the side of the little brother gone before.
MISSOURI SCENERY --NEWSPAPER UNKNOWN---no date
From Philip Schember, De Soto, Missouri. " I promised to write you a little about the " Show Me " state. Well anyone who appreciates beautiful scenery can find it in Missouri, for there is plenty of it, but one who likes good roads wouldn't care to live here. There are the rockiest roads here I ever traveled----nothing but rock. I took Mrs. Schember and Verna out with me a couple of times and they didn't care to go again. We left Hermann last Thursday morning, arrived here Friday. We surely saw some rough country. There are some hills around here but not like Hermann. The worst hills are at the edge of town; after one gets over them it is pretty nice country. While we were at Hermann we went through one of the largest wine cellars in the world. it is about one half mile long; and very wide--all under a big hill. It was quite a sight. They had one barrell that held 20,000 gallons, and had in all 800,000 gallons of wine in that cellar.
